Motor vehicle sales volume ASEAN 2023, by country
In 2023, Indonesia had the highest number of motor vehicle sales across Southeast Asian countries, with over one million sales generated. Alternatively, Myanmar sold just around three thousand motor vehicles in that same year.
The landscape of the Asian automobile industry
Asia is home to some of the most valuable vehicle manufacturers. While the number of passenger cars sold in the Asia-Pacific region dropped during the COVID-19 pandemic, they are on the rise again. China is the leading producer of passenger cars in the APAC region as well as on a global level. The other leading automakers in Asia are Japan, India, South Korea, and Indonesia. Vehicle production is estimated to grow around ten percent in the next year, thus continuing its steady growth.
Valuable brands in APAC
The leading automaker in Asia as of now is Toyota Motor from Japan. Among the ten leading car manufacturers in Asia, five were from Japan, while two each were from South Korea and China. Toyota was also included in the most valuable brands within the automotive sector worldwide and was the most valuable brand in 2020.
